Do 13% More Sit Ups To Failure

December 14, 2011

Holiday feasting has been pretty good to you so far this year. That might open the door to a more demanding 6-pack workout once the New Year begins. A study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition suggests downing an energy shot about 30 minutes before abdominal training.

Researchers compared the muscular endurance of 23 male subjects in their early 20s to a similar group of volunteers who were given a placebo. Although there were no differences in pre-test abilities, the guys who drank a 4 ounce energy shot half an hour before performing a series of sit ups to failure were able to do 13.2% more work than the placebo group.
