After a workout, when you're all pumped up and your heart is racing, you feel pretty much invincible. While we wouldn't encourage anyone to take on super human feats after an hour of hoisting iron plates, a study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research offers some interesting science on the subject of pain sensitivity.
Scientists had 21 women in their late 20s and early 30s report activity levels and duration along with pain sensitivity. After analyzing the data, they found a significant relationship between time spent performing intense exercise and lower pain ratings. The more intense exercise the less pain. Low and moderate intensity exercise didn't differ very much from the pain reported by inactive subjects. So you could say, the more you gain, the less you'll feel pain.
