Who turned you on to the recovery support of post-workout protein shakes? If you're anything like the 800 fitness center regulars surveyed in Palermo, Italy, it was probably a personal trainer. A majority of the subjects (34%) consulted with trainers on sports nutrition. Only 18% asked their doctor, and not a single one of these 800 people went to a nutritional expert for advice.
The study, which was published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, went on to report that 30% of respondents reported daily supplement use with the most popular stack being creatine and/or amino acids in a protein shake. As an interesting dark side to this survey, there was much higher degree of snack consumption among those who said they didn't use supplements.
